Unlike other VPN providers, StrongVPN does only offer 2 different subscription plans. For example, Surfshark offers a 2-year subscription plan which cuts the monthly price to just $2.49.

However, you do still need to input your billing details and pay for the subscription to start with. Is StrongVPN Compatible with All Devices?

StrongVPN offers support for a wide variety of devices and operating systems. There are easy to use, dedicated apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and FireTV. Manual setup guides cover other devices including Linux, ChromeOS, Amazon Kindle, Synology NAS, Kodi, and a range of router models.

Impressively, there is support for up to 12 simultaneous device connections, which is much more than most VPN providers offer. The average in the industry is just 5. This means that you can protect all of your devices including your mobile phone, tablet, computer, and share the subscription with your partner or family members too. There is also the option to install the software on your router, enabling an almost unlimited number of device connections.

Installing the VPN on your router will count as a single connection, no matter how many devices are connected to it. This means that every device that is connected to your router’s Wi-Fi network will be protected by your chosen VPN protocol.

Is StrongVPN Easy to Set Up?

Despite that StrongVPN does not come with a free trial, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee. This means that users have to pay for at least a month of the service in order to test it out and it will thus be necessary to enter your payment information and billing address.

Once you have created an account with an email address, username, and password, you will be redirected to an easy to use setup page. This web page will offer links to download the Android, macOS, iOS, and Windows clients.

The provider’s website offers a decent range of manual setup guides too for a wide range of additional devices and operating systems including Kodi, ChromeOS, Amazon Kindle, and more. Users can choose to set up a VPN router connection to enable an unlimited number of device connections. The Android section of the website offers installation guides for Android TV, manual IKEv2 setup, and OpenVPN setup. However, if you are satisfied with the dedicated clients, you will likely not require additional documentation.

Installing the standard StrongVPN clients is simple and similar to the process offered by most other VPN providers.

The Windows user interface reveals your current location on a map and your external IP location. There is a simple Connect button to enable a quick connection to the best available location in terms of speed and proximity. A simple location list offers all available servers by their countries, but there are no speed, server load, or ping time indications, or the option to save your most commonly used servers in a Favorites section.

There is a search box, allowing you to easily identify the best available locations. You can also sort by city instead of country. The app lacks the additional configurable features often seen with other VPNs. There is no way to conveniently switch your VPN server location until you manually disconnect from your current connection. There is also no option to pan or zoom the client map as it is a static graphic.

However, this does mean that the client is simple to use, there is little configurability, which may be an issue for more advanced VPN users. There is a wide range of protocols though, enabling you to choose between OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, L2TP, SSTP, and IKEv2, and an easy-to-use kill switch to cut your connection if the VPN fails for any reason, preventing the transfer of any unencrypted information.

Does StrongVPN Have a Good Server Network?

StrongVPN offers access to a decent number of servers with a network of over 950 in 46 different cities across over 20 countries. This server network enables access to a host of geo-restricted content on social media and streaming services including Netflix, YouTube, ABC, Spotify, Crunchyroll, HBO, SkyGO, Hulu, and more. However, fans of UK television content will be disappointed as there is no support for BBC iPlayer which is unfortunate.

Torrenting is also supported, however, the provider does not openly state its support for P2P sharing or torrenting on its website, nor are there torrenting guides in the help section.

Is StrongVPN Private?

As part of this StrongVPN review, we considered it important to analyze the services’ privacy and security features. The provider offers excellent protection for your web traffic with secure military-grade 256-bit data encryption and handshake encryption as standard. The VPN company operates on OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP, and SSTP protocols. There is also support for the proprietary WireGuard protocol. The WireGuard protocol has recently been introduced and offers faster and more reliable connection speeds as well as higher levels of security than any other VPN protocol available.

Its connection speeds, performance, and security are better than even OpenVPN. It also utilizes fewer computational resources and is supported on Windows, Android, macOS, and iOS apps.

StrongVPN also offers a reliable kill switch which is an important security addition to protect all VPN users and their online identity and anonymity. The kill switch is available on the VPN provider’s desktop apps. This features works to cut the transfer of data if your VPN or internet connection failed for any reason. This ensures that no unencrypted data or your real IP address become exposed. Without a kill switch, anyone that had access to your network could steal your private internet data and your IP location.

Does StrongVPN Log User Data?

The VPN provider states that it does not log customer data and offers a zero-logging policy. This means that the VPN service will never store, monitor, or share private user data when you are connected to its services. The only information stored is your email address, password, and billing details that are necessary to create an account. The service reassures users that it will never sell this information to third parties for profit.

However, StrongVPN’s privacy and no-logging policy are not as detailed as those offered by other VPNs. This is worrying and there have also been no independent audits of the service’s claims. Many other VPN companies have started to complete external audits of their VPNs, networks, and services to provide evidence for their no-logging claims. We would like to see StrongVPN follow suit in the near future.

It is especially concerning that StrongVPN is not more transparent about its logging policies due to its location in the US, a country that has much stricter data retention regulations than other locations around the world. An independent security audit would serve to reassure users that are concerned about their privacy and security when connected to the VPN.

Is StrongVPN Fast?

StrongVPN offers relatively fast connection speeds when it comes to streaming, gaming, and downloading. Despite that its servers are not the fastest in the industry, speed tests reveal speeds that are fast enough for the average user, no matter what location you are connected to. For example, United States IP addresses offer speeds of up to 215Mbps and United Kingdom servers up to 65Mbps.

Does StrongVPN Offer Good Customer Service?

If you run into issues while using the service, whether you are trying to overcome geo-restrictions, or access a connection in another part of the world, StrongVPN’s customer support team are there to help. If any problems arise while you are installing or using the VPN, there is a library of support guides available on the help section of the provider’s website. The articles are divided into groups including setup articles, technical support, billing guides, and FAQs. The site is also usefully searchable by keyword. The VPN service also has a blog which is interesting and helpful for more expert VPN customers.
