Is TigerVPN Good?

TigerVPN is a simple but interesting security service that is based in Slovakia. The provider offers access to over 300 P2P servers in 62 locations across 43 countries. Many premium providers such as ExpressVPN and NordVPN offer significantly larger server networks, however, TigerVPN does own and manage all of its DNS servers, hardware, and coding.

The standard TigerVPN monthly plan is relatively expensive at $11.99 especially considering that this only includes support for 2 simultaneous connections. If you choose to pay for a year’s subscription in advance, the price falls to $6.67 a month, although this is still above average when compared to other providers.

As with any VPN, the most affordable option comes with the longest commitment. If you opt for TigerVPN’s 3-year plan, you will receive access to the app for just $2.75 per month. However, there still are cheaper options on the market if you are not happy to commit to the provider for three years. For example, the Private Internet Access’ plan comes in at just $2.85 per month for the first year.

How Much Does TigerVPN Cost?

TigerVPN may not be the most powerful security solution on the market but it does come in at a relatively affordable price if you are looking for a budget product. The provider’s rolling monthly contract is quite expensive at $11.99, especially considering that this includes support for just 2 simultaneous device connections. This is slightly above the current VPN-industry average of $10.28 a month.

If you pay in advance for 1-year, you will receive access to 5 simultaneous device connections for a more reasonable $6.67 a month. The three-year plan offers the most affordable subscription option at just $2.75 a month. However, there are still cheaper VPNs on the market. The provider does not openly advertise it, but it seems that you can take advantage of a free 3-day trial on its Windows client.

Simply download and install the TigerVPN Windows app, enter your email address and test the product for three days on 2 of your devices. This is useful as most other providers no longer offer any form of a free VPN trial. Three days should give you sufficient time to test the product and decide whether it offers all of the services and features that you need in a VPN.

There is a 7-day money-back guarantee too for additional peace of mind. Even though this is much less than most other providers offer, there is a free VPN trial too.

As with any VPN product, we would recommend testing a short-term monthly subscription plan before committing for longer. You may find out later that the VPN isn’t right for you, and you don’t want to be stuck in a multiple-year commitment.

What VPN Protocols Does TigerVPN Offer?

Every provider uses a different range of protocols. TigerVPN supports OpenVPN which is reassuring. OpenVPN is arguably the best, fastest, and most reliable protocol that is currently available. It is open-source too, which means that it has been pored over by developers for potential vulnerabilities or leaks.

The provider also supports IKEv2 on its iOS app, as well as the older, and less secure L2TP and PPTP protocols. There is no option to switch between protocols with TigerVPN which is somewhat disappointing. However, users can choose to manually configure the integrated client on Windows devices.

Does TigerVPN Have a Good Server Network?

When choosing a VPN, it is helpful to look at its servers and server network before making a decision. The number of servers and the locations of the servers offered by a provider can indicate the type of performance you can expect. TigerVPN offers just over 300 servers, which is relatively small when compared to the likes of NordVPN, which offers more than 5000.

Geographical range is important too. With a VPN provider that offers servers distributed all over the planet, you will be more likely to find a server near to you and thus receive better speeds and overall performance. A wide range of servers is also helpful if you travel often, as it will mean that you have more locations to choose from when masking your location. A large server network also ensures that no single server becomes overwhelmed by too many users which may result in slower internet speeds.

TigerVPN offers servers in 62 individual locations in 43 different countries. This is quite impressive. NordVPN for example offers servers in about 61 countries. TigerVPN has excellent distribution too with server locations in Africa and South America, places some VPN providers often ignore.

TigerVPN also offers an extensive list of European servers including locations such as the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.

There are TigerVPN servers dotted across North America too, in Sydney, Australia, as well as several South American locations.

Is TigerVPN Private?

As part of this TigerVPN review, we considered it necessary to analyze the provider’s no-logging and privacy policies. TigerVPN appears to be clear and transparent when it comes to privacy and logging. The provider states that protecting user privacy is their priority and it, therefore, does not store any activity data.

However, when reading the small print, things become more complicated. The provider does not monitor or log the websites that you visit or the content of your uploads or downloads when you are connected to the VPN. However, it does store some session information and other details.

According to TigerVPN’s privacy policy, the provider logs the chosen VPN protocol and version, your device’s operating system, the version of the VPN app you are using, data traffic statistics, randomized country statistics, chosen server location, your favorite VPN servers, and debug information.

TigerVPN does state that none of this data can be used to link a user to a particular activity, which is reassuring to know. It is unusual for a VPN to store your favorite VPN servers in its central system. However, it does so in order to enable your favorites to be synced across all of your devices, which is a highly useful feature.

Like most small VPN services, TigerVPN has not yet completed an independent security audit of its policies and software, so there is no real evidence to back up its privacy claims. However, the TigerVPN privacy policy does provide impressive detail on the provider’s logging policies and what it means for users.

Is TigerVPN Easy to Set Up?

Signing up for an account with TigerVPN is quick and easy. Simply enter your email and password as normal, fill in your payment details, and you will be redirected to a page featuring download links, setup information, account details, and more.

Installing the app on Windows and Android is quick and straightforward and should take no longer than a few minutes. The client interface is clean and simple and offers all of the features that you would expect. There is a large Connection button for quick access to the VPN, a list of server locations, Favorites selection, and the Settings section. It is extremely easy to use and navigate, even for a beginner user.

The app operates in a similar way to any other VPN. Simply double-click on your chosen server and it will connect, a desktop notification will indicate when you are protected, or if the VPN connection drops for any reason. You can also switch between servers at any time without needing to close your current VPN connection.

Although the TigerVPN app is simple to use, it offers a somewhat basic VPN experience. Many other VPN services offer the option to sort the server list by countries, cities, ping time, latency, server load time, and more in one click, but TigerVPN only displays the server lists by the city name and country code.

There are few additional features in the Settings panel. There is no option to alter your connection type or switch between VPN protocols and OpenVPN is set by default. Nor is there the option to set up an auto-connect feature to automatically activate the VPN if you access unsecured or untrusted Wi-Fi networks. There are no connection configuration options other than the potential to choose between OpenVPN UDP and OpenVPN TCP.

There are native apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop devices but TigerVPN also offers an iPhone client. The TigerVPN Android app operates on the OpenVPN protocol which is arguably the best available VPN protocol available.

Is TigerVPN Good for Streaming?

Although many VPNs advertise their privacy features, TigerVPN states that it will overcome geo-restrictions and website filters to allow you to bypass censorship and restrictions to access content from across the world. However, this does not appear to be true.

During testing, TigerVPN could not gain access to BBC iPlayer as the site detected the use of a VPN. The VPN had the same issues with Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. TigerVPN states that the United States and other servers are currently blocked by Netflix, however, the VPN was able to access Netflix content on a few US server locations.

Therefore, we cannot recommend TigerVPN as the best VPN for streaming as it is just not reliable. We would recommend that users utilize the free 3-day trial to see whether the provider unblocks their favorite streaming sites before committing to a paid subscription plan.

How Does TigerVPN Work?

You don’t need to be an IT nerd to understand how TigerVPN works. TigerVPN uses military-grade encryption to create a secure tunnel between your device and a remote VPN server. Even though it may not be the best VPN on the market, it will ensure your online activities are safe and anonymous.

A VPN allows users to securely access a private server from anywhere in the world. The VPN will mask your real IP address and replace it with that of the VPN server. This means that you can use it to access geo-restricted streaming content by connecting to a VPN server that is located in the same country as the content you are trying to access.

When you activate the VPN, it will create an encrypted tunnel between your device and a remote VPN server that is controlled by TigerVPN. Your internet activity will be re-routed through the tunnel and exit through the VPN server. This means that no one, including your Internet Service Provider (ISP), will have access to your online activity.

Does TigerVPN Offer Good Customer Service?

TigerVPN does not offer 24/7 live chat customer support as part of its customer service which is disappointing. This means that you may be waiting a while for an answer if you run into issues while using the VPN service.

We’d like to see more priority support for paying customers since many other VPNs do this.
